Already within the first year we have made expanded plantings for the canopy layer (jujube, che, Asian pear, an additional cherry); plus new plantings in the shrub layer (hazelnuts, elderberry, gooseberry, currants, Nanking cherries) and a more complex perennial polyculture at ground level. We are converting the grass sod a section at a time to mixed covers of clovers and crucifers, plus lamb's ear, bunching onions, sorrel, comfrey, and various culinary and medicinal herbs. (This picture was made in the spring of 2007, the second full season of the project.)
