Waterfowl are great fun. We rotate ours over the pasture or even our lawns, using electric net fencing to protect and confine them. We thus turn an irksome chore (mowing the lawn) over to the experts, who convert the grass to elegant winter meals. Pictured here are African geese and Saxony ducks—the drake (male) is on the right, the duck (female) is hiding shyly in the background. Saxonies are good examples of domestic ducks descended from the wild mallard.
