Brooder-horse-stall

Chrystal Mehl of Amissville, Virginia, sets up a brooder for broiler chicks by blocking off a corner in a horse stall with hay bales, protecting the chicks with a heavy gauge wire gate. Chrystal simply tops off the litter of pine shavings between broods. She gets better results with each batch as the season progresses, and the litter deepens and becomes more biologically active.
