One of our Boxwood Broody hens on pasture with her new clutch of nine chicks. She and the chicks were moved direct to the pasture from the hatching nest. The following week (last week of March) featured 45° days with 25 mph winds, and nights when water froze in the waterers. A long way from standard recommendations in an artificial brooder: “Maintain 95°.” “No drafts.” Mama knows how to do it. (The hen didn't lose a single chick.)
