Appleyards are among the most beautiful of all ducks. The drake is an extraordinarily fine looking fellow. He has the dark green head, more showy plumage, and more iridescent speculums—green, blue, or violet depending on the angle of the light—typical of many breeds of mallard type or “true duck” drakes.
